Andrea Aiuti


Andrea Aiuti received onSeptember 1871, the sacrament of Holy Orders. Aiuti was a member of the Roman Curia and in the service of the papal diplomacy in Brazil and Spain. OnMarch 1887 he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Achrida and appointed Apostolic Delegate to India. The episcopal ordination was given to him by the Archbishop of Bombay, George Porter, S.J., onMay 1887. From 1891 to 1893 he served as secretary of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith and was appointed the Apostolic Nuncio to Bavaria onJune 1893. A few days later he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Tamiathis. In 1896 he became the Apostolic Nuncio to Portugal. In 1903 he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII as cardinalpriest with the titular church of San Girolamo dei Croati . Andrea Aiuti participated in the conclave of 1903, in which Pope Pius X was elected.
